My garden blessed me with this beautiful sunflower today. The first of the season! Hello, summer.
I got a basket full of garlic! There are approximately 63 full-sized and storage quality heads of garlic. There are 37 heads of softneck garlic and 26 of hardneck. Softneck grows best in southern climates, and zone 6 (much of WV and southern PA) is the northern most region where it can typically grow. Softneck garlic is best for long term storage and in the ideal storage conditions can last up to a year. Hardneck garlic grows best in Northern climates with harder freezes. It can store well for around six months, sometimes more. This was all grown from garlic harvested on homestead last year. I only replanted the best and biggest bulbs. Many of my hardneck heads were the size of my palm!
